![]() ![]() The book would make a swell TV series, an idea I’m sure occurred to Pollet when she set fingers to keyboard. (Penelope and Stacy, of course, live on the Upper West Side, where novel protagonists should come from.) ![]() I’m almost halfway through its 218 pages, and am shocked and delighted to find it’s written so well that I’m caught up in the life of Penelope Schwartzbaum, her best friend Stacy Commack, and their life in and out of Elston Prep on New York’s Upper East Side in the spring of 1981. The book is Nobody Was Here: 7th Grade in the Life of Me, Penelope (Orchard Books $23.99) by Alison Pollet. ![]() What’s strange about that? you ask, smartass. It’s strange, but I’m reading this novel about (and meant for) 12- and 13-year-old girls. ![]()
